Beyoncé has the most nominations for the 2023 awards, and many recent perennials are back again. But some of music’s most inventive younger stars didn’t break through.

Another year, another head-scratching combination of nominees for the Grammy Awards, which will be held on Feb. 5, 2023, in Los Angeles.

On the 65th annual show, Beyoncé leads all eligible artists with nine nominations stemming mostly from her “Renaissance” album. That ties her with her husband, Jay-Z, as the most nominated artist in Grammys history, with 88 total. (Beyoncé has won 28 times, although not in one of the top all-genre categories since 2010.) Just behind her in this year’s count are other modern perennials like Kendrick Lamar (with eight nominations), Adele (seven) and Brandi Carlile (seven).
